A bit about the Designer...

SANDRA HILL

Founder and Creative Director of Simply Sandara
Sandra is first and foremost an Artist - specialising in Textile Design. Her passion is in printmaking and main choice of artistic medium is lino cut.

‘I love the roughness you get from lino cut printing - the little surprises that occur each time you print the same block. Many of my fabric designs begin their lives as rough sketches or lino cut prints. I just adore the look and feel of traditional block printed fabrics and I feel that using lino cuts as my stating point - helps me achieve this block printed feel in my textile designs.”

The inspiration for this collection – “I always like to keep a sketchbook to hand – or blank photocopy paper, even scrap paper (sketch books aren’t always easy to get) and fill the pages/papers with little rough sketches of things that capture my attention. Whilst living in the coastal town of Lamu in Northern Kenya – I had trivially drawn small fragments of patterns I had seen in the architecture, textiles and ceramics that had inspired me. Later – when looking back at these rough drawings – these patterns just jumped out at me – begging to be used.”
